Need quick, healthy meal options that can be heated in minutes and are easy to pack for work? I’m about to rock your world! Get ready to say goodbye to frozen meals forever with Freshly! The folks over at Freshly offered to send me a week of meals to try out and review for you guys, and I have to say that I am crazy impressed.
See, I am not a huge fan of convenience meals. I much prefer to make things from scratch. I have PTSD from eating those brick-like SmartOnes meals every day back when I worked in a cubicle for 9 hours a day. I also get super sick of take out all of the time. So I came into this experiment a skeptic at best. Before I show you guys what I ate, let’s take a peek what what sets Freshly apart from the other convenience meals!
At Freshly, the key focus is on delicious, healthy meals curated by real chefs. They use less sugar, only use thoughtful (non-processed) ingredients and they make simple swaps for more veggies and less junk! Dairy-Free? Gluten-Free? Soy-Free? No problem. With Freshly, you’re always in control. You can pick your meals to make sure that not only are the good for you, but they are good! See how easy it is to change up your subscription and pick your meals here.

I took a peek at the menu for the week that I was ordering and chose the following meals:
- Fiesta Beef Bowl
- Sausage Baked Penne
- Pork Carnitas
- Beef and Broccoli Bowl
- Red Pepper Chicken Bowl
- Summertime Chicken Risoto
The box arrived still cold (which is huge with meal deliveries! I have gotten warm, spoiled food more than a few times) and in a timely fashion. Everything was wrapped well and packed with ice. I took a look at the “best by” dates on the back of each box and chose which ones we would eat first.
My husband, who is 6’4″ and not a “small” man by any means, wanted to try the Sausage Baked Penne. I was in shock when he texted me the pictures of his meal, raving about how good it was.
I mean, look at that cheesy goodness…
A healthy lunch, that tastes good, and was enough food to satisfy my hearty-eating man? This one checked all of the boxes! And I didn’t have to do any work, so I am down with that.
I tried the Pork Carnitas first. As soon as I started to dig in, both my 1 year old and 3 year old started begging for some, and they wound up finishing my meal.
Jam-packed with flavor and better-for-you ingredients that I felt good about giving my kids? Another win.
The Beef & Broccoli Bowl was all mine! I had a bad craving for Chinese take-out, and this did not let me down! So good that I didn’t even feel like I was missing out.
The chicken breast in the Summertime Chicken Risotto tasted like it was just pulled off of my grill! Not rubbery and gross like frozen chicken typically is.
This last one, I took in a hurry so I didn’t get a picture of the cooked meal. But look at those nutrition stats! Goodbye, processed junk!
Don’t just take my word for it! Check out these rave reviews:

My final thoughts?
If you made it this far, I am sure by now that you are intrigued! As a recipe blogger, cook and lover of all things food…Freshly gets my stamp of approval! The meals were delicious, arrived on time, were easy to cook, and my entire family ate it up!
