For most of my 20’s, I dreaded turning 30. I mean everyone jokes about the “anniversary of their 29th birthday” like it’s some sort of horrible thing, right?! I expected to feel like I instantly turned into an old maid with nothing left to look forward to except decline and death (dramatic, I know). But as this date approached, I started to feel this burden to CELEBRATE! Yes, I am shouting. You see, my husband and I had had a rough couple of years. We got pregnant and then lost a baby (more on that here). Then after much heartache and struggle, we got pregnant with our sweet rainbow baby Addilyn. We had been thrown headlong into parenting and all that goes with raising a newborn. We adjusted to major work (and income) changes. We built a business from the ground up, and then had watched that business struggle and shouldered a lot of burden from that. And we were still standing!
I had been fighting tooth and nail to exclusively breastfeed our daughter (thanks PCOS) and we were finally in a good groove! I had also just lost 50+ lbs using the Beachbody on Demand, which I will tell you all about in it’s own post!). I was also about to launch a rebrand of my boutique that I wanted to make deeply personal. So as the day approached, I decided I was going to commemorate what the last decade had brought me and taught me, and kick my next decade off with a bang!
I reached out to my sweet photog friend, Mandie Dowling, and shared my vision with her. She was 100% on board and really jumped in to bring my vision to life! I whipped up a cake, gathered some pretty things, and we met in a field to do the thing! I could not be any happier with the results and it felt so good to celebrate myself in the midst of the hard parts of being a new mom.
What we used for this shoot:
- Homemade naked cake
- Large can of glitter!
- Rose Gold 30 Balloons
- Rose Gold Confetti Balloons
- Tulle Skirt (You can find one just like it here!)
- Black V Neck Pocket Tunic
- L’ANGE APLATIR Straightener- my FAV way to curl my hair! (Use this link and get 50% off!)
The glitter toss was my favorite part!
My best advice: If there is something that intimidates you (like growing older), face it head on, embrace it and celebrate where you are at in your life right this very minute! Life is too short and precious to waste even one day.
